Women Breadwinners: Why We Must Be Sensitive to... →
Excellent piece by @AndreaDoucet.  Fave quote: [A]n approach that pits women against men cannot get at the rich relational processes that underpin these 21st century stories, and our understanding of them.

Do unisex names mask #gender, or call attention to it?  A stat, via @Strollerderby today: Based on the latest statistics from the Social Security Administration, there are now more kids names in the top 1000 that appear on both the male and female lists than a decade ago. In 2009, 68 popular baby names were on both lists, up from 60 back in 1999.

Writes Sarah Hoffman (pseudonymn) today in Salon: “Everywhere — on playgrounds and in homes across America, in Disney movies and on national television, on high school and college campuses — pink boys are the brunt of jokes, made to feel inferior, mocked until they take their own lives. Feminine boys are among the last people it’s OK for our culture to hate.”

Huzzah for Pigtail Pals!:    It is my very firm belief that media literacy and girl empowerment starts when our girls are itty bitty. This is something our girls must be raised with. I am writing a book on this very topic – so that new parents can have a jump on the game. We shouldn’t have to wait for school age to get help, or for each of us figure it out on our own, or be left wondering what to...

Today Is My Birthday! Ohm.
This 42-year old mama of two 15-mo-olds wanted nothing more than quiet and silence and time alone, so my family gifted me a weekend at Kripalu (yoga retreat in the Berkshires) for my birthday.  Grandma Nee flew in from Chicago to help take Marco care of the babes.  I am a very lucky mama and am feeling incredibly grateful right about now. For the first time in a long time, I truly rested.  This...
